The Wealth Academy is committed to creating a library of resources to support those schools, universities and organisations who want to improve the financial life skills of young Australians.
The library includes:
- an overview of ALL resources organised under conceptual headings, and
- sample programs for each year level.
Overview of all resources
This overview provides educators with a quick and easy way of perusing The Wealth Academy resource library.
This update is organised by concepts. Under each concept is a list of topics, their source and a brief comment which provides a little more information about topic.
We also provide our initial ideas as to where educators may be able to use the resource — i.e. in upper primary (UP), lower secondary (LS) or upper secondary (US) classrooms. It is a suggestion only.
Each topic has at least one lesson, but some topics may relate to teacher modules and have up to 6 lessons.
We have listed our topics once only, even though they may relate to more than one concept. For example we have topics listed under the Budget concept, but budgeting topics may also be evident under the Saving/Spending concept.
This overview of our resources will be updated quarterly.
Your school financial life skills partners provide valuable local expertise that can help students with their understanding of the complex financial world in which they will live.
Many educators have asked for sample programs to peruse as a starting point for using the resources in their schools. We have created one sample life skills program for each year level in secondary education. They provide educators with a quick and easy way of using a selection of the resources.
It is important to remember that these resources can be used in multiple ways to suit the student body within the school.
The sample programs are just one way the resources could be used within your school.
The programs have been created based on the following assumptions:
• 10 week program
• Life skills or pastoral care orientation, rather than a narrower and deeper focus e.g. Investment Basics
• 1 lesson / week
• Exposure to a variety of financial life skill topics across the program
• Classrooms have access to data projectors and can access the web
• All topics have either lesson plans or are a blackline master.
Note: Please peruse all videos before showing to students.
Teacher Guides for each of the Sample Programs are available for download from the Activity Bank. This may be accessed after login.
